501 (c) (3): Mary distributed copies of Lisa Stoddard’s email dated 1/7/10, Hanna Young’s email summarizing the final outcomes of Camas Prairie Horizons, meeting minutes from 7/14/09, and a proposed budget.
Welcome Party: Marina Bates reported that the August 16 party was held at Pioneer Park. She considered the event a success but noted that Sunday was not the best day to encourage family participation. In 2010, the Welcome Party will be scheduled on a Saturday in August or September to coincide with the Farmer’s Market. Event location has yet to be determined. The group discussed combining the Welcome Party and Ice Cream Social. The Steering Committee agreed to budget $500 for future use at a combined event in 2010. Marina will coordinate with service providers and the Farmer’s Market organization.
Ice Cream Social: Yolanda Stout reported that the Ice Cream Social was held this summer at the Farmer’s Market. She presented a check for $6.31 for donations collected at the event.
Business Action Team: Marina reported that this team has disbanded. Marina is now lending her support to Grangeville Horizons Recreation, Inc.
Evergreen Food Bank: With funding from the Grangeville Horizons Steering Committee, Carlene Whitesell reported that Evergreen Food Bank applied for and received 501(c)3 status quite quickly and can now receive donations for easily. The rent crisis has passed, but Carlene requested that the Steering Committee keep funds in the budget for possible future use. Lorraine Hingston Roach is trying to find grant funding to evaluate the feasibility of a multi-tenant facility in Grangeville. Possibly located in the old Assembly of God Church building, the one-stop-shop might include Hope Pregnancy Center, food bank, cooking classes in a commercial kitchen, emergency shelter, etc.
Dress for Success: Melissa Bailey and Jody Hoogland are developing a program to distribute business dress clothes to those in need. The Steering Committee agreed to budget $100 for future use.
Grangeville Arts: Tova Cladouhos reported that the first annual Grangeville Arts Contest for area K-3 students was a great success. Selected artwork will be matted and displayed at Syringa Hospital. In May, a tea and awards ceremony will be sponsored by Syringa Hospital and Clinics to honor the winners. Grangeville Arts requested funds to help pay for matting expenses. The Steering Committee agreed to provide $300 as a one-time distribution.
Rails to Trails: Cathy Wassmuth reported that this project is on the back burner until the rail-bed owner and the Rails-to-Trails supporters can come to an agreement. The Steering Committee agreed to budget $300 for future use.
Grangeville Horizons Recreation, Inc.: Cathy Wassmuth reported that the Christmas lights and infrastructure at Pioneer Park have been expanded thanks to donations. The group is now pursuing Phase II grant funding for additional infrastructure improvements. The group is already planning for the 2010 Three-On-One Basketball, considering options for a community swimming pool cover, and a possible roller-skating venue. Cathy requested funding for Grangeville Horizons Recreation, Inc. to complete the paperwork for 501(c)3 status. The Steering Committee agreed to fund $850 for the IRS application fee and $200 for CPA review of the application.

Leadership Training: Greg Bailey will ask the LCSC Outreach Advisory Committee whether Leadership Training curriculum might be used in Grangeville. Andrea and Mary will contact the Minnesota Horizons group to obtain updated information about the training. The Steering Committee agreed to budget $1,200 for future purchase of the curriculum.
Rural Schools: Harold Gott benefited from Horizons funding to become a member of the Rural Schools national organization. He now serves on the board.
