Reports
- Rails-to-trails (Deanna): There is still interest in pursuing a rails-to- trails system between Grangeville and Lewiston. The two immediate issues that will have to addressed before moving forward are (1) Establishing a 501c3 for the organization so it can obtain grants, etc.to pay for purchasing the route and creating the trail and (2) Establishing a value for the route and getting the current owner to set his terms. The next meeting will be held in Lewiston on March 14, 2011. Pat Green and Jamie Zehner will attend this meeting.
- Community Foundation (John and Jane): It was proposed by Mary Jahn and Andrea Solberg that with some of the remaining Horizon dollars, a community foundation be established through the Idaho Community Foundation. John Bennett (ICF board member) and Jane Spencer (local attorney) explained the concept of such a fund for Grangeville. The purpose of the fund would be to assist local organizations with some of their needs. All present were in favor of exploring this concept further. John will email us the current ICF requirements and other pertinent data for creating such a fund.
- Food Bank (Carlene): Carlene reported that the number of people using the food bank has increased significantly. She is in need of a freezer and asked if Horizons would be willing to donate money for this purchase. She will need about $1000.00 and will be asking local churches for assistance also.
- Multi-tenant Facility (Jody): An architect has been hired to make a proposal for remodeling the building. The group is looking for private funders for the purchase of the building. The shop building on site is being looked into as a possible public transit center for individuals needing transportation. Jody will continue to communicate to us any new developments.
- Friends of the Library (Mark Baker): The Friends of the Library has incorporated and finished their application for a 501c3. Andrea will visit with Mary Jahn about Horizons funding for the 501c3 processing.
- Schools (Greg Bailey): There will be a “Future of Grangeville Schools” meeting next week, Wed., March 16 at 6:00 p.m. in the GHS library. The purpose of the meeting will be to gather information from stakeholders as to what they want and/or need for their future schools. The school levy election will be held on May 17, 2011.
The next meeting is tentatively scheduled on Tuesday, June 14, 2011 noon at Oscars.
