What is the need or issue your Action Team is tackling in your community?

Introduce, train, support more people into leadership roles within the community.

Create and make available a path and resources for people interested in developing leadership skills within our community.

Who else or what existing projects are you partnering with?

We are working and supporting the Coordination and Entrepreneurship action teams.

Our support is through leadership guidance and coordination with leadership support.

Coordination System Action Team to ensure access to information and processes are in place to assist people.

Grangeville Elementary/Middle and High Schools for the mentoring program.

What goals does your Action Team have? (What do you want to accomplish in the next 2-3 years?)

Connecting existing community leaders with people who may be leaders for new community project - connect city leadership with people doing a community improvement project

Create and maintain a list of existing community leadership

Assist community mentoring/leadership training

  1. Resume/scholarship seminar for HS students
  2. Volunteer mentors in the schools
  3. Brown-bag lunch leadership training

Assist other committees with leadership needs they may have –

What do you want your Action Team to accomplish by June 30, 2008?

Create a list of existing community leaders, minimum of 20, to post on the Horizon’s website for access to community people who would like guidance in the leadership role.

Provide a list of community members, minimum of 8, who will assist students in completing scholarship applications.

For the brown-bag leadership training we will provide 9 seminars each year. The seminars will be held at the high school during lunch hour so that the students can be involved.

Provide on-line flyer to the other action groups explaining how the leadership committee can assist in leadership needs. Contact information can be provided on the Horizon website.

Minimum of one member of the leadership action team will attend the Horizon’s steering committee meetings.

What impact do you want your actions to have and how will you measure that impact?

If the above measurable goals are met then an increase in community members taking leadership roles will occur.

How will these actions reduce community poverty and/or build community leadership?

By increasing community volunteerism poverty will be reduced. Leadership skills will also provide the training that will allow community members to be more hirable.

We will create potential opportunities to future leaders and business people of Grangeville of the leadership opportunities possible and access to the skills and tools to develop themselves.

What initial action steps have you taken?

Three meetings have occurred to develop basic goals to complete the action plan.

Other information you would like to share:

Our long-term goal would be to organize a program similar to Big Brothers Big Sisters, where any student would have the opportunity to be connected to a person in the community that shares the same interests and makes money at those interests.

The action team worked towards identifying 3 primary action team goals – the three ideas that continued to come out were: 1) connecting existing community leaders with people who may be new community project leaders, 2) Assist community mentoring/leadership training, 3) assist other committees with leadership needs they may have.

Listed below suggestions of specific ways that our action team could meet these primary goals:
1) connecting existing community leaders with people who may be leaders for new community project -  connect city leadership with people doing a community improvement project
create and maintain a list of existing community leadership

2) Assist community mentoring/leadership training -
               resume/scholarship seminar for HS students
               volunteer mentors in the schools
               leadership training for existing organizations
               brown-bag lunch leadership training

3) assist other committees with leadership needs they may have –

Other ideas suggested - “Community Needs” bulletin board – maybe on the website, to list possible projects for community members.

Next Meeting – MON, Dec 3rd @ 4pm in Super 8 Conference Room.
